“You get a strange feeling when you are about to leave a place. It’s like you’ll not only miss the people you love, but you’ll miss person you are now at this time and place, because you’ll never be this way ever again.” -Azar Nafisi
As I look back on my two years on the Norwegian cruise ship “Pride of America”, it’s been an interesting time. Two years ago, I signed onto the ship on October 8th. I had no idea what it would be like to work on a cruise ship.
I’ve made a lot of friends during my time on the ship and gone on some pretty interesting and amazing adventures. Sure, there have been times I could have gone without, and I learned a lot of lessons too. I’ve had relationships come and go, experienced losing a family member, survived rocky friendships and met some of the coolest people.
“Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.” -Victoria Holt
I celebrated one Halloween, two Thanksgivings, two Christmases, two Valentines, one April Fools, and two birthdays on the ship. Despite the fact that we were working during the holidays, we still managed to have a lot of fun.
I’ve had three vacations while working on the ship, and this one is a little different. I’m not coming back to the ship after this vacation. Instead, I will be embarking on a new adventure in another country, Australia. I’m excited for the future and what lies ahead, but sad to leave so many good people behind.
“I know I’m who I am today because I knew you…it may well be that we will never meet again in this lifetime, so let me say before we part, so much of me is what I learned from you…you’ll be with me. So whatever way our stories end, you have rewritten mine by being my friend.” -Wicked “For Good”
So for everyone I’ve met while working on the cruise ship, whether as a passenger or a guest, I will always remember all the experiences, conversations, and adventures. They will never be forgotten, and will be remembered with a smile and a tear.
“A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realize how blessed you are.”
Thanks for being my friend. I know you were always there when I needed you.
