Exactly one year ago today, I drew this picture. I was going through a rough time and was living in Australia, far away from many of my friends and family. Drawing brought me to a place of comfort and rest, and allowed my feelings to flow through my fingers instead of rattling around inside my brain. Sometimes, we keep things inside, just because we are afraid of what would would happen if we let out what we were thinking. When one is going through a dark time, they often feel as though others don’t care about them.

I want you to know that you are never alone. If you are ever having dark thoughts or are just feeling lost and alone, I plead with you to please get some help. It’s not always easy to wake up every morning with a happy or joyful look on your face. I completely understand. We all have issues in our lives, including drama with friends or family, losing a loved one, going through an illness, feeling lonely, working somewhere that makes you feel dead inside or even just making it through each and every day. However, if you are waking up every morning DREADING your life, please know there are people who care. If you find yourself scrolling through Facebook wondering why everyone else has amazing lives, STOP. Know that you are looking at their HIGHLIGHTS and not their everyday moments. Call a friend. Go for a walk. TALK. Get your feelings out. Even if you feel as though you’ve pushed everyone away, just pick up the phone anyway.

Things don’t always go the way we plan, but we can still see good things come out of them. “God uses our memories, both good and bad, to shape who we are and who will become. To get rid of those memories that cause us pain will rob God of one of the ways he works, in our lives, and our hearts.” -Adventures in Odyssey, “A most extraordinary conclusion”

Know that everybody will experience trouble and sorrow. You can’t live on cloud nine constantly. It will take hard work, but remember to place your purpose over your problems so that you don’t expect temporary situations to be your happily ever after.

God has not brought you this far to abandon you. Each struggle to overcome because a pointer saying, “Look ahead, past the struggle itself, past the temptation of the puny, vapor joys to the great, sustained, substantial joy set before you.” -JonBloom

“Give all your worries and cares to God for he cares about you.” -1 Peter 5:7

If you are struggling, call a friend. Don’t go another day without talking to someone. It’s okay to be questioning, wondering, or crying, even feeling as though you are not yourself. This does not make you weak, or unworthy of love. It just makes you human. Trust me, hiding what you are going through will not help you. Call someone. Please. And remember, you can always send me a message.

“Problems can become opportunities when the right people come together.” -Robert Redford
